The Las Cruces farmers market is a long-standing tradition and people come from all over just to experience it. Hundreds of local farmers and artisans set up shop along the “yellow brick road” at the downtown mall between Church and Water Street every Wednesday and Saturday morning.
Founded in 1971 as a gathering of local farmers selling their crops, the market quickly grew and other vendors joined in to sell their wares. The outdoor market provides an inviting and laid back atmosphere for customers to take a leisurely stroll down the street as they peruse the many booths full of handmade goods. Some items are made right there at the market while shoppers watch.
Unique one of a kind handmade necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other handmade jewelry that no one else will own can be found. Hand carved wood items, pottery, paintings, professional photography, soaps made with natural ingredients, and many other artistic treasures are here for purchase.
Looking for a tasty treat or the freshest local produce? You have come to the right place. There are countless booths of fresh fruit and veggies grown by neighbors. Get a taste of authentic traditional New Mexico with spices, and chili and pecan products. Enjoy a homemade baked good or some of the best candy you have ever tasted. Need something both sweet and savory? The fresh kettle corn is delicious.
The farmers market is not just for humans to enjoy; furry family members are welcome as well. The Las Cruces market is a pet-friendly venue and many of the locals enjoy bringing their four-legged pals down to socialize and enjoy getting outside. Don’t have a furry pal? You can adopt a pet at the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley at the south end of the market.
Stop and rest for a minute or two while you take in the sounds of local musicians and bands performing at various locations throughout the market. Sit and lunch on a hot dog or other tasty dishes while you listen to the whole set.
The Las Cruces farmers market is truly amazing, so amazing in fact that it was named “Number One Large Farmers Market in the Nation” by America’s Farmland Trust 2011 prestigious nationwide poll.

Sounds like a fun event! I love visiting farmers markets in other areas of the country because the local produce can be so different.
