New Mexico State University is located in Las Cruces New Mexico between the intersection of Interstate 25 and Interstate 10 south of downtown. It is a land grant university and the second largest four-year university in the state.  It is the only research extensive land-grant US – Mexico border institution in the country.

The university received its current name in 1960 and currently enrolls around 20,000 students. The university offers associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees through a wide range of programs at its main campus and four community colleges. This university is also the only research extensive, land grant, USA-Mexico border institution classified by the Federal government as Hispanic serving.

Although there are many places to live on campus in the dorms and adult housing, you may find your niche outside of the campus in one of the many neighborhoods and residential communities surrounding the campus. The community that the campuses and is considered University Park and there are several homes on the east side of I-25 and the southwest side of I-10.  The majority of neighborhoods with higher density populations are set to the north of the campus with home prices starting about $78,000. These homes range up to about $200,000 although that is on the high end of properties in this area. The majority of properties are single-family homes although you can find a few townhomes, duplexes and condominiums for sale that start on the lower end of the pricing scale.

While these properties are close to the campus you may find that bike riding or catching public transportation is a better way to commute. Walking is fine but it might take you a while considering the roads and distance away from where you need to be on campus. Communities such as Mesilla Park sit southwest of the campus and offer several residential neighborhoods. Those that are North East of the campus are surrounded by the NMSU golf course you may find properties with golf course views or higher-end properties.
